Adding dimension to leaves-Brazilian Embroidery

I've been working with dimensional leaves again.Instead of posting a picture of the finished leaf, today Iam going to give a step by step tutorial . This one shows how to add dimension to a leaf using bullion padding.I've used two strands of Anchor floss. You could use the same for practice. If you donot mind using up your Edmar threads, then try the same with Iris.

Let me add a disclaimer too : Iam not an authority on BE,nor am I an expert embroiderer.Iam sharing what I've learnt after spending lots of hours trying to understand the very few instructions which I've at my disposal and most of the techniques are self tried and learnt. These are not copied from any book, coz I do not have any :)

Here goes...

Draw the picture of a leaf

Stitch two bullions on either side of the centre line. If they are not perfect, don't worry. You are going to cover them up anyhow.

Cover them up with Satin stitch or leaf stitch and voila !!!
Another view to show you the dimensional effect.
Tell me if this was helpful. That'll give me the inspiration to do some more posts like these.

Thank you Deepa for the very clear instructions.

I like padding very much and I think that this way of padding looks very effective.

This is a great tip. I think I will use it not just in leaves but wherever I need a dimensional effect. Keep them coming.
